  13.   I think you need to ignore your friend.  Learning C, pascal, asm, C++,
  14. or any other reasonable lower level language will give you a good solid
  15. understanding of how your machine works, regardless of whether it's "the
  16. language".  Once you know one good computer language, learning others is
  17. fairly simple.  Not to mention the fact that you might find yourself
  18. waiting forever for a "new language" to come along, when you could be
  19. happily programming in C.
